In its annual report on the progress of negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the EU published on October 16, the European Commission has “welcomed major advances in the democratisation process and the reform of the justice system,” writes Sabah.

The pro-government daily enthuses over the “democratisation package” adopted in early October and praises the efforts made by the government, which also launched a process to resolve the Kurdish question in March 2013.

The newspaper points out that, when Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle presented the report, he demanded three more chapters — on regional policy, on the judiciary and fundamental rights, and freedom and security — be opened in the framework of negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the EU.
