In 2022, Ukrainians fleeing the Russian full-scale invasion found refuge in the EU. They were greeted with unhesitating and unprecedented solidarity. Things have changed since then. In Central and Eastern Europe, Ukrainian refugees are today accused of taking advantage of their hosts' hospitality. Having lost their homes, they now face growing hostility, fueled by populist and far-right parties.
How to explain such a reversal, as Ukraine endures perhaps its harshest winter yet under Russian assault? How do Ukrainian refugees feel about it? And what does it mean for the ongoing support for their country by the countries involved and Europe in general?
