The funeral of former Cypriot president (1993-2003) Glafcos Clerides, who died on November 15 at age 94, was held on November 19 in the Cypriot capital, reports Cypriot daily O Phileftheros. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the governments of Greece, Serbia, Israel and of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The paper recalls that Clerides, who was briefly head of state during the Turkish invasion in 1974, created the conservative Democratic Rally party in 1976. In 2001, he became the first Cypriot president to visit the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
