The Luka Koper Council, which manages the port of Koper, has appointed as its chairman, Gašpar Mišič, a former government secretary-general and a senior figure in the Positive Slovenia party.
Mišič resigned last week to allow his candidacy for the post, explains Dnevnik. Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek (of Positive Slovenia), who had pledged not to rubber stamp political appointments, asked Mišič to withdraw his candidacy, which she described as “inadmissible” while her coalition partners condemned it as “unacceptable.”
The daily explains that the appointment has come at a key time: Luka Koper is preparing to invest €78m in an extension that will increase the capacity of its container terminal from 720,000 units to 950,000 units.
