Cyprus Natural gas

First on-site test of natural gas production

Published on 5 September 2013 at 14:11

The first gas production tests in the “Aphrodite” field, located in block 12 of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone began on September 5.

The procedure will enable experts to test the quality of the gas and the level of pressure in the field, which should come online in late 2019. Exploratory drilling undertaken by Noble Energy in 2011 indicated that there could be up to 8 trillion cubic feet of gas in the field, reports the Cyprus Mail.

For its part, Politis announces a “historic” and “symbolic" day marked by the lighting of the “future flame of Cyprus.” The daily continues —

For centuries, the geographical situation of the island has attracted conquerors. Now it is attracting countries like Norway, which is calling on Cyprus to follow its example.

Politis also reports on the response from, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Dervis Eroglu, who declared, on September 4, that Cypriot Turks have the same right to gas revenues as the residents of the south of the island, and that the management of natural resources will be included in the next cycle of negotiations with Nicosia.
