After lengthy negotiations, the new Italian government obtained the confidence of the lower Chamber on 9 September. Led by outgoing Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, it is supported by the Democratic Party (centre-left) and the 5-star Movement (anti-system), after the dissolution of the alliance between the latter and Matteo Salvini's League (far right).
Much more pro-European than the previous one, the Conte II government was rather well received in Brussels.
