Edmond About (1828-1885) was a French journalist and man of letters, and a member of the Académie Française. Employed by the French School of Athens, he spent several years in Greece, where he wrote his 1854 essay La Grèce contemporaine ("Contemporary Greece"). He was also known for the columns he published in many French newspapers and the novels he wrote for children.
