Nicholas Kulish was born in Washington in 1975 and worked as a news assistant at The Wall Street Journal before working his way up to staff reporter in the paper’s Washington bureau. He embedded with a Marine helicopter squadron for the invasion of Iraq and now works for The New York Times as the paper’s Berlin bureau chief.
