‘Hunt for Danish fighters in Syria’

Published on 20 June 2013 at 11:08

According to Danish intelligence services, some 65 Danish nationals have fought alongside Syrian rebels, with at least five of them having been killed, reports Politiken.
The figure has alarmed the government in Copenhagen, which is attempting to prevent further departures for Syria.
From now on, intelligence services will inform Danish authorities of any trips made by the country’s citizens to Syria and the source of any funds used for this purpose. The government is also considering sanctions against returning fighters, ranging from a suspension of welfare benefits for immigrants to criminal charges of terrorism.
