RightWatch tackles the rise of far-right misinformation in Europe, focusing on France, Greece and Italy. Far right narratives on migration, climate change and social issues such as gender equality, minority rights and LGBT+ rights are increasingly shaping public discourse, undermining democratic values and fuelling division. A cross-border fact-checking initiative designed to debunk false or misleading claims and provide citizens, policymakers, journalists, educators and civil society with reliable, evidence-based information, it combines investigative journalism with cross-border collaboration.
The project is coordinated by Voxeurop and run alongside Internazionale (Rome) and Solomon (Athens): each newsroom contributes expertise and leads on particular topics. The multilingual dimension ensures that debunked stories reach diverse European audiences. At its heart, RightWatch is about strengthening critical thinking, protecting democracy and ensuring Europe’s public debate remains inclusive, accountable and rooted in facts.
Ultimately, RightWatch aims not only to challenge false narratives but also to build trust in democratic institutions, encourage accountability, and empower citizens to resist manipulation. By filling a gap in existing fact-checking efforts, particularly around far-right rhetoric, it contributes to a stronger, more informed European public sphere and safeguards democratic discourse against extremism.
RightWatch is a project supported by the European Media Information Fund (EMIF).
