On 6 November, the day following their government’s presentation of a 13.5-billion euro austerity package, Greek workers went on a 48-hour general strike, the third in two months.

The austerity package, which will be the subject of a parliamentary vote on 7 November, must be approved if the country is to receive another 31.5 billion euro tranche of financial aid, in line with the third memorandum ("MNHMONIO 3" in the Greek) signed with the EU-ECB-IMF troika troisième mémorandum.
