On 24 August, on the eve of a bilateral summit, German Chancelor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime minister Mariano Rajoy met in Santiago de Compostela, where they walked a few kilometers on the Way of St. James and “showed the harmony that unites them”, writes La Vanguardia.
The meeting took part a week before the 30 August Brussels’ European council, where the EU’s top jobs should be discussed, notes the Barcelona daily, according to which,
the Chancelor seeks Rajoy as an ally against pressions from France and Italy, and the Spanish PM needs Merkel’s support to get back influence in the EU institutions.
