The holiday season has been marked by Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's botched attack on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on 25 December, and a young Somalian's failed attempt on the life of Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in Aarhus, Danemark, on 1st January. Both of the would-be attackers have been linked to Al-Qaeda.
