Born to an Armenian father and a Greek mother in Istanbul in 1937, Petros Markaris is one of Greece’s best-known writers. He has collaborated with filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos, translated Goethe, and written several detective novels which take a close look at social issues in Greece: these include The Late-Night News (1995), Che Committed Suicide (2003), and The Settlement(2012).
