Implicated in the Parti Populaire's slush fund and criticised for his silence on the issue, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has agreed to make a statement to Parliament about the affair.
During a press conference with the Romanian prime minister, Rajoy admitted that it is "necessary" for him to give his version of events but added that it must be done "at his request," reports Spanish daily La Gaceta.
He explained that he is breaking his silence only to respond to "the doubts raised among the citizens" and not because of the censure motion the opposition is threatening to table. His hearing before the MPs could be held in the next two weeks, the paper adds.
