Some 5,000 people attended an October 20 demonstration in Bucharest to demand a law to reinforce links between Moldova and Romania and the ultimate reunification of the two countries. The demonstration took place in the run-up to the Eastern Partnership summit to be held next month in Vilnius, in which Moldova is expected to sign an Association Agreement with the EU.
According to the European Commission, the agreement, which will open the EU to Moldovan products, will generate economic growth of 12 per cent in the country in the medium term.
The demonstration, notes România liberă, is part of the campaign to “Bring Bessarabia home”, which is demanding that Romania introduce softer visa regulations “for Romanians living on the other side of the River Prut.”
