On the papers: “Deposition. Papandreou before the commission over the Lagarde List”

In a written statement submitted to the parliamentary committee investigating possible manipulations of the so-called "Lagarde List", containing the names of some 2,000 alleged Greek tax evaders, socialist former prime minister George Papandreou said that when he heard of the list, he ordered his assistants and staff to launch a crackdown on tax evasion.

According to one version of his testimony obtained by I Kathimerini, Papandreou said he was informed by the then minister of finance, George Papaconstantinou, of the existence of the list but "was never informed or asked to be informed of the contents of the list".
