Founded in 1864, the free-market oriented, conservative Hufvudstadsbladet (“Capital City Newspaper”) is the highest-circulation Swedish-language daily in Finland. Swedish-speakers represent 5.4% of the country's population of 5.3 million. For reasons of identity-awareness, discussions of bi-lingual issues appear frequently in the paper.
