Il Giornale
Milan
176 000 (2011)
Founded in Milan in 1974 by Indro Montanelli, a living legend in Italian journalism, Il Giornale has always been a conservative daily. Silvio Berlusconi bought it up in 1987, only to resell it to his brother Paolo in 1994, the year he first ran for legislative office, to defuse accusations of a conflict of interests and flouting the independence of the press. Needless to say, Il Giornale is conspicuously partial to the current PM.
