Italy’s reference business daily was founded in 1965 after the merging of Il Sole (founded in 1865) and 24 Ore (1946). Despite its austere image, it is the third national daily, with circulation boosted by an increase in publication of non-economy related articles. Its Sunday culture supplement Domenica pulls in an intellectual readership that normally shows little interest for economics.
Il Sole’s website is more like a portal: in addition to a selection of articles published in the print edition, it features a wide range of services related to the stock exchange and the economy, most of which are subscriber-only.
