Founded in 1900 and based in Rijeka, "The New Paper" is one of the oldest dailies in Croatia. Published in national and regional versions, it is renowned for having maintained an independent line during the 1990s — at a time when Croatian politics were dominated by the nationalist Franjo Tudjman — and for its high-quality commentary pieces, which play a key role in political, economic and cultural debates in Croatia.
