Founded in Cracow in 1945, sociocultural weekly Przekrój (meaning both "Cross Section" and "Cut it" - it was previously sold with the pages uncut), traditionally aims for an intelligentsia readership. It made its name by featuring work from some of Poland’s best known writers: including poet Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, novelist Leopold Tyrmand, and playwright Sławomir Mrożek. Following the transfer of the magazine’s offices to Warsaw in 2002, the weekly changed its layout style and format, and expanded its editorial team to include several new young journalists.
