Greece was paralyzed on 26 September by a general strike called by major trade unions to protest against the new austerity plan demanded by the EU-ECB-IMF troika. At least 50,000 people marched in Athens, before being dispersed by police. Demonstrations also took place in the north-eastern city of Thessaloniki.
