G7 countries met on 7 and 8 June at Schloss Elmau in Bavaria for a summit particularly focused on foreign policy (especially the crisis in Ukraine), security and climate change, six months before the climate conference in Paris. A day was spend discussing cooperation on development, security and reforms in Africa, with leaders meeting several African heads of state and government leaders.
Several thousand protesters marched on 7 June in the nearby resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to criticise, among other things, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Pact (TTIP). Some scuffles broke out with the police.
