The British government is set to approve a plan to construct a second toll motorway at a cost of £1bn (€1.2bn), as part of an effort to stimulate the economy.
The project is part of the £3bn capital spending plan, unveiled in the recent 2013 budget, and will aim to ease traffic congestion on the busy M4 motorway in south Wales.
It follows the opening of the country’s first toll road, the M6 Toll, in 2002. Other roadbuilding plans are also under discussion, such as a new London-Scotland dual carriageway.
