The German Catholic Church ended its collaboration with a researcher who in the summer of 2011, started investigating cases of paedophilia in its ranks. In a statement, the Conference of Bishops said that the trust between it and Christian Pfeiffer, the Director of the Institute of Criminology Lower Saxony "had been destroyed".

According to the researcher, the bishops asked the researcher to submit his work for approval. The Church said its decision related to problems concerning the protection of personal data.
