James Murdoch has resigned as chairman of BSkyB. In stepping down, the designated heir of press and television magnate Rupert Murdoch hopes to minimise the impact of the News of the World hacking scandal on the media and telecommunications company. Obliged to close last summer, the troubled press title was owned by the News International Group, from whose chairmanship James Murdoch resigned in February.
