The Italian 2019 draft budget presented to the European commission on 15 October has provoked a new financial storm in Europe. It foresees a 2.4 percent deficit over GDP, which is much higher that what recommended by the eurozone stability pact and by the EU Commission itself. The commissioner for Economic and financial affairs, Pierre Moscovici, wrote to the Italian government asking for clarifications. Rome has until 22 October to reply.
