British prime minister David “Cameron's bid to cap number of foreign workers breaks basic rules” , writes The i, quoting the outgoing president of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, who also “warned that quitting Europe would leave Britain isolated and with 'zero' influence” , in an interview to BBC.
The daily adds that David Cameron “is considering an annual cap on the number of low-skilled immigrants from Europe permitted to work in the UK” , amongst other measures to avoid losing votes to the UKIP party, which wants Britain to leave the EU. Cameron also plans to renegotiate the United Kingdom’s EU membership ahead of a referendum on this matter to be held on 2017, should the Conservatives still be in office after 2015 general elections.
