On November 27, the Italian Senate is expected to vote on the long-debated expulsion of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi following his conviction for tax fraud.
Two days earlier, Il Cavaliere announced he had gathered new evidence that would enable him to overturn the verdict and prove his innocence. He called on his opponents to stop pushing for his expulsion, which would constitute "a stain on democracy", and announced a protest rally to be held in Rome during the vote.
If Berlusconi loses his seat - and with it his immunity from prosecution - he will likely be arrested in connection with the other criminal proceedings against him.
