At the May 28 opening of the 6th Integration Summit in Berlin, Angela Merkel declared that the term integration is ”outmoded” in a world where immigrants should be “respected and urged to participate” in civic life.
The chancellor deplored the persistence of prejudice and “structural discrimination”, which particularly affects immigrant entrepreneurs who face significant difficulties obtaining loans, reports Die Welt. She also proposed to reinforce labour market mobility with greater recognition for foreign qualifications. Die Welt points out that 52 per cent of Germany’s unskilled unemployed are of foreign origin.
