‘The war is still there, the plan is not working’

The conflict in eastern Ukraine might be out of the headlines, but it is far from resolved, notes television journalist Angelina Kariakina, who joins Debates Digital from Kyiv. As diplomatic efforts prove ineffective, more and more Ukrainians consider a fully-fledged war to be a way out of the stalemate. In a deeply polarised country, peace plans have little prospect of success.

At the same time, the Ukrainian topic number one is the recent blows against the anti-corruption authorities, Kariakina tells Debates on Europe’s Carl Henrik Fredriksson. Now the country has to struggle not only with an economic crisis, a health crisis and the humanitarian crisis the east – there is a looming constitutional crisis as well.
