The publication in early March - or even earlier - of confidential documents allegedly originating from US intelligence and revealed to the general public in early April has left the US Department of Defense in disarray. The importance of the information - most of it dealing with the war in Ukraine - contrasts with the seemingly innocuous origin of the leak: a young American soldier sharing classified documents on a Discord chat server. While the situation might lend itself to levity, it is being taken very seriously by the US, as well as others.

One of the most noteworthy revelations is that several NATO countries (United Kingdom, France, Lithuania, the United States, the Netherlands) appear to have sent special forces to Ukraine, which could be exploited by Moscow. Since the beginning of the conflict, Russia has claimed that its conflict is with both Ukraine and more broadly the Atlantic Alliance. These latest revelations, if true, would be an ideal opportunity to drive the point home.
