‘Anger over ČEZ brought down government’

“PM Boiko Borisov resigned on February 20 after demonstrations against high electricity prices blocked streets” in all major towns and one protester set himself on fire.
Before stepping down he initiated a procedure to withdraw the licence of Czech state-run energy company ČEZ, the biggest electricity distributor in Bulgaria.
The crisis has also spread to the Czech Republic, which fears a repeat of the Albanian scenario. Last week, Tirana moved to withdraw ČEZ’s Albanian licence last week for the same reason.
