“At least Viktor Orbán and Iveta Radičová met,” reports SME. On 14 December the Hungarian and Slovakian prime ministers met up in Bratislava for the first time since 2001, when relations turned sour between the two countries. During Viktor Orbán’s jaunt to Slovakia in the run-up to Hungary’s six-month stint at the EU presidency in the first half of 2011, the two leaders saw eye to eye on two things: the need to build a natural gas pipeline soon to form part of the grid reaching from the Adriatic to the Baltic Sea so as to reduce Central Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, and “the need to start up new cross-border cooperation projects”.
