On 22 November the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague sentenced former Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladić, 74, to life in prison for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Bosnian war (1992-95). He was found guilty in particular for the deportation of the entire population of the Srebrenica Muslim enclave and the murder of 8,000 of its male inhabitants in July 1995, and for the siege of Sarajevo.
