“If you don’t leave Greece by end of June, there will be carnage,” reads a letter written on official letterhead of the neo-fascist Golden Dawn party sent to the Muslim Association of Greece. Officially, the party denies any involvement, “but only a few believe it”, notes Gazeta Wyborcza.
Government sources report attacks on foreigners in Greece reached an all-time high in 2012, with 154 incidents recorded. Human rights organisations estimate the real figure is much higher.
An expert quoted by the Warsaw daily explains that -
Tired Greeks look for causes of the crisis, and this party Golden Dawn provides them, blaming poor economic condition of the country on foreigners or Muslims”.
