Born to a Peruvian mother and Chilean father in Romania in 1976, author and playwright America Vera-Zavala was three years old when her family moved to Sweden. In the early noughties, she rose to prominence as an activist in the Global Justice Movement and as one of the founder members of the Swedish branch of the anti-globalisation organisation Attac. She has written several books on democracy and globalisation as well as a number of plays. She is also a regular contributor to the daily Flamman.
