American website Cryptome.org has published a map showing the location of NSA X-Keyscore servers, which enable US intelligence services to monitor Internet activity in the country.

Close to 150 of these servers are operating in 85 centres worldwide, more often than not in US embassies, and notably the US embassy in Bucharest, writes Jurnalul naţional. Surprisingly, notes the newspaper, the NSA site in Hawaii, where Prism scandal whistleblower Edward Snowden used to work, is not shown on the map.

Questioned by the daily, the US embassy in Bucharest refused to be drawn on the matter, insisting it would “not comment on security issues”.
