A day after the EU's environment ministers' postponed a vote on implementing stricter measures on CO2 emissions for cars – following particular pressure from the German government – the German press has revealed that the Quandt family, the main shareholder of carmaker BMW, contributed €690,000 to the CDU on October 9.

According to the Quandt family, the donation, which is largest received this year by Angela Merkel's party, is a reward for the successful work achieved by the Chancellor.
