Alexis Tsipras’s visit to Russia: Insert coin

Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras flew to Moscow for a two-day visit on 8 April. Tsipras has “called for an end to the ‘vicious cycle’ of sanctions against Russia over Ukraine, while Russia’s President Vladimir Putin denied using Athens to sow discord within the EU", reports I Kathimerini.

The Athens newspaper’s English version cites official Greek sources saying “Greece has not asked Russia for financial aid and wants to resolve its debt problems within the European Union.” But Europeans fear Tsipras’s visit “could result in a deal for a discount on Russian gas”, writes EUobserver. Russian daily Kommersant also reports that Moscow is considering supplying Greece with gas at a reduced rate.
