The Belgian government has placed Brussels on a level four security status, the highest possible, for four days. This measure, almost unheard of in Europe, has been adopted because of a "serious and imminent danger of attack", while security forces extend their searches and arrests in areas occupied by radical islamists in the hunt for Salah Abdeslam, suspected of having taken part in the deadly shootings of 13 November in Paris.
