On Sunday, several hundred people answered a call from the opposition Democratic Coalition for a demonstration outside the headquarters of the ruling Fidesz party to protest against an article published by Zsolt Bayer in response to a murder carried out by a member of the Roma community. The journalist – also a Fidesz member – demanded "the elimination of gypsy animals". With support from the conservative daily, Fidesz has accused the Socialist Party “of siding with the killers” and “leading a hate campaign”.
