After Greece (and Ireland and Portugal), Spain is preparing to seek help from the EU to face its financial difficulties. On 1 October, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Olli Rehn said the European Commission "stands ready" in case Madrid, under pressure from the markets and some of its European partners, seeks a bailout. The Spanish Government has not yet made a decision, fearing the strict conditions which may be imposed by Brussels in exchange.
