A deeply just, sustainable, democratic and happy society for the 21st century is possible!

We have received this initiative from one of our members and gladly publish it, though we do not necessarily endorse it.

We are a group of European Union citizens of 8 nationalities. Our conviction: a deeply just, sustainable, democratic and happy society is possible in the 21^st century, in the European Union and in the world. We call it the Society of Agreement. We founded the CosmoPolitical Cooperative to give ourselves the means to make it a reality, before 2050, by taking action now, at every level, from the individual to the European Union.

The CosmoPolitical Cooperative stands out from all other environmental or social initiatives through:

• this vision of the future that is coherent, integrated and unifying, presenting clear trade-offs between losses on one side and gains on the other, in a new social contract that is fair, sustainable and democratic: the Society of Agreement;
• a legal form that allows for the combination, in a fully democratic manner, of all means of action, both individual and collective, in complete autonomy: the cooperative form;
• the scale necessary to have an effective capacity for transformation, even in the face of hostility from the wealthy and from multinational corporations: the European Union.

We call on you to join us and take part in our kick-off meeting, bringing together all our members – both founding and new – online, on Thursday 16 July 2026 at 8.00 pm CEST.

Like you, we are aware of the growing number of interlinked crises (environmental, climatic, social, democratic) and wars, the rise of brutality and extreme right-wing ideas. Sometimes we feel scared and discouraged. But we don't give in to it.

On the contrary, we are convinced that a deeply just, sustainable, democratic and happy society is possible for the 21^st century. We call it the Society of Agreement. The Society of Agreement constitutes a profoundly new social contract, in which social equality and democratic participation compensate for – and go beyond – the reduction in the volume (but not the quality!) of consumption to a level compatible with planetary boundaries. It is also the positive, integrated and coherent alternative to the current system.

We have founded the CosmoPolitical Cooperative, a European Cooperative Society, to act together to make this vision of the future a reality, in 2050 or sooner:

• Like an association, we create and disseminate practical advice, trainings and publications on food, cycling, circular economy, etc. to help you lead a more sustainable, fairer and happier life right now;
• Like a trade union, we initiate and participate in sustainability dialogues in the workplace;
• Like a company, we are creating a sustainable offer where none exists, with current projects on urban mobility and micro-tourism;
• Like a political organisation, we are defining and aspire to implement public policies at all levels (from the local community to the European Union).

In each case, we offer concrete, targeted and effective solutions. Our first project is our Sustainable Diet Handbook. Food accounts for 32% of our greenhouse gas emissions and 50-85% of our impact on biodiversity – and it is an area where each and every one of us can take action right now, without having to consult anyone else. Other projects are in development.

Our action is supported by a solid and comprehensive IT infrastructure and by articles of association that ensure a very high level of internal democracy.

We offer a very wide range of levels of commitment, compatible with every desire and every constraint.

We know, and accept, that the road to the Society of Agreement will be long and difficult. We are aware of the enormity of the task before us, of the deep nature of the transformations we are bringing about, and of the resistance they will arouse from the rich and powerful - and the media that are subservient to them. But we also know that the time has come for us to act, and that the only totally unrealistic option is to continue our society's mad race towards the abyss, in a deadly 'business as usual'.

We are calling on everyone who shares our hopes, our ambition and our desire to take concrete action together to join us. 

We are organising our kick-off meeting, bringing together all our members – both founding and new – on Thursday 16 July 2026, from 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm (Central European Summer Time, from Spain to Poland), online. We want to move quickly. The wars of aggression to which both Ukraine and Iran are falling victim, and the heatwave currently sweeping across Europe, demonstrate the urgent need for the European Union to be strong, united, democratic and independent, and to offer the world a fair, sustainable and desirable alternative.
