Is there any end to the Epstein scandal? On 6 February, the US Department of Justice published more than three million pages and thousands of photos and videos documenting the activities of American businessman, pedophile, and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019). The publication has led to a torrent of revelations concerning his links to influential political and cultural circles.
While it was American figures who bore the brunt of the accusations in the early stages of the scandal, it is now Europe's turn to face the music. In France, former minister Jack Lang and his daughter have been singled out for their – primarily financial – ties to the American financier. Elsewhere in Europe, members of the Norwegian royal family, the former UK ambassador to Washington Peter Mandelson, and Slovak statesman Miroslav Lajčák are all under the spotlight for their alleged connections to Epstein during his lifetime. While Epstein's suspicious death in prison and the many gray areas in the case have fueled all sorts of theories, the documents published to date clearly reveal his interest in European politics.
