‘Gay marriage: the Commons says ‘I do’’

UK Members of Parliament backed a historic law endorsing same sex marriage in England and Wales, with a majority of 225 backing the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill. However, the vote was an embarrassment for Prime Minister David Cameron with around 139 Conservative MPs, including two cabinet ministers, voting against.
The proposed law will now be passed to the House of Lords, parliament’s second chamber, for approval.
