Thijs Broer (1970) studied law and history in Amsterdam and Berlin. Since 1997 he has been working for Vrij Nederland, as political editor since January 2006. In 2007 he wrote a book with Max van Weezel called “De Geroepene. Het wonderlijke premierschap van Jan Peter Balkenende” (“The Calling. The Wondrous Prime Minister Years of Jan Peter Balkenende”).
He made much-discussed portraits of politicians such as Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Frans Timmermans and Mark Rutte, and is the co-author of Code Red, about the Dutch government's handling of the COVID-pandemic.
