The only school in Holland to offer job training for Imams, the Inholland school of Amstelveen, will close its doors in 2018 at the latest, the school says. Public subsidies are not sufficient to cover the training classes which were introduced in 2006.
The aim was to produce a generation of Imams that would be better integrated into Dutch society, something seen as an "urgent" priority by the government.
Currently 30-40 per cent of Dutch mosques call on Imams from abroad. This can lead to an ideological and financial influence of the home country.
