After news that Facebook provided information on its users to police in scores of countries, Diário de Notícias reveals that last year Microsoft also handed over its users’ data to Portuguese police and judicial authorities.

Portuguese investigators made 548 requests related to 710 users holding Outlook/Hotmail or Messenger email accounts, according to a company report seen by the newspaper.

Both companies assured users that all data requests complied with the law and that the privacy and security of people’s personal information was always fully respected.
